2. What does our vote mean? (What happens next?)

If we vote YES (the contract proposal passes), this is the outcome:
  • All proposed changes to the language and evaluation will become part of the Articles of Agreement for the next two years.
  • The proposed salary schedules will be adopted for the next two years.
  • HNEA will continue to address member concerns with district policies and practices.
If we vote NO (the contract proposal fails), we don't know what the outcome will be. Here are three possible scenarios:
  • Possibility 1:
    • The negotiating teams will honor the tradition of bargaining in Hazelwood and go back to table to try to negotiate a mutually agreeable contract proposal. This would require another vote by the HNEA members.
    • No matter the outcome, HNEA will continue to address member concerns with district policies and practices.
  • Possibility 2:
    • The district will allow our contract to sunset (expire) and impose the contract proposal upon us without our vote. (Allowable by state law if the contract expires.)
    • HNEA will continue to address member concerns with district policies and practices.
  • Possibility 3:
    • The district will allow our contract to sunset (expire) and discontinue use of the Articles of Agreement. The district will be run using only board policy which the board can change at any time. (Allowable by state law if the contract expires.)
    • HNEA will work to reinstate the Articles of Agreement.
    • HNEA will continue to address member concerns with district policies and practices.

See below for a message about the vote from our UniServ Director. Brigette Alexander-Humphries is our liaison with Missouri NEA.
